Please Pray for Bongolo

November 17, 2015

It is early morning and there is a storm going on, so my cell phone won't write any text messages so I have only a little information on the subject.  The resident who was on call made a Facebook post late last evening that one of our nurses, who was in a village 2 hours away, started bleeding in her stomach, and died before she reached the hospital here.

As you may recall, the hospital has already been beset by 2 surgeons on furlough (why I am here), a medical doctor evacuated to the USA with hemorrhagic dengue (why Jerry Rusher is here), pediatrician having extended stay in USA because of surgery, two nursing school directors--one on furlough and one on medical leave, plus the ophthalmologist is in the USA getting a reward at the US national ophthalmology conference for her work here, and the pilot and his wife (the ophthalmology resident) also in the USA at the conference (they are only gone for a couple of weeks).  The ranks feel very slim here, and with this loss of a nursing staff member, I am sure that there will be lots of emotional going on.

Please pray for the staff here at Bongolo.  I am writing each of you as I really depend upon your prayers.  It almost feels like there is an "attack" against this place, and we do so need the Lord's help.

Pray for Dr. Keir, the medical director so that he is able to say the words of comfort and encouragement to the staff today.  Pray for the nurses who are now one fewer and will have to work harder, plus deal with the loss of one of their own.  Pray for the family of this nurse who died.  Please pray for Bongolo today.

Depending upon the Lord,

Pat Rees
