Thank you SO MUCH to all of you who have prayed for my patient here in Bongolo Hospital. (And the prayers for me and for the staff here, too)! "Lewis" survived the surgery, which was amazing as he looked like death as we wheeled him into the operating room. The prayer that the nurse-anesthesia person said as we started the procedure was very powerful, and I could feel the presence and help of the Lord through the whole case. The anesthesia person was able to get the patient intubated the first attempt (highly unusual) and kept him as stable as I could expect during the case. Even more amazing was that the patient was able to have the breathing tube removed after surgery and is breathing OK on his own. (There is a ventilator of sorts here but nobody to monitor them). The bad news is that Lewis hasn't "woken up". His vitals are stable. He has good kidney and lung function. His temperature is very high but not unexpected after finding a loop of dead bowel and infection all over the abdomen. His poor wife sits alone watching him. Please pray that the Lord will continue to touch his body and bring him healing!
